I went to Bangkok. 10 days ago. A good road, in some places repairs are done, but not annoying. 2 times in some settlements they stopped at night, but they will shine a flashlight into the cabin, pass through the window and then let them through. And in the mountains there are very beautiful views! I haven't seen the desert.

I rode a bike, in general, ordinary Thai life, there is a water park with thermal springs near the entrance to the mainland. Look at the car rental agreement to see if you are allowed to travel outside the island.
