It depends on what you need and for how long. There are SIM cards with high speed, but expensive. In reality, they are not needed for maps and taxis. At the airport there will be only premium fares, and in the supermarket buy for 200 baht / month. This is a tariff with a speed of 4mbs. Enough for everything except video streaming.
