We traveled from Bangkok to Surat Thani a month and a half ago. Also, there were allegedly no tickets. At the old train station in Bangkok, at the box office, it turned out that there were more than enough tickets for different trains. There was no first class, however, the cashier said that they were generally dismantled very quickly. But for the rest of the seats - please, the choice of trains and seats was available. We took it a couple of days before leaving Bangkok. So, most likely, there will be tickets at the box office, if you take it at least a little earlier, and not on the day of departure.
