[Phuket] hello. In the FAQ on Phuket I read that when renting a motorbike, in no case should you give a passport as a deposit. In 2019, the offices demanded the original as collateral. Has anything changed? Insist that I won't give the original? - Thailand

Don't even think about leaving any documents. There are more offers for bikes than demand, so shoot a bike with a deposit and your passport will just be photographed and that's it. Treaty demand in English too. Be sure to make a video before you pick up a bike with the owner's face and rental location.

Many people take money instead of a passport, as the rights would give categories. And so yes, giving a passport then can be a big problem.

Do not leave your passport in any case. There is a contract in Thai, which you hardly understand))) well, me too. Then you don't get any problems.

On Patong I took a bike, in one place either a passport or 4000 baht, in another 3000 baht, but gave 100 $ and threw off a photo of a foreign citizen on WhatsApp, some kind of contract was drawn up by who took when and for how much, when the return.
