1. Smog 2 may come from the north. On the outskirts it is cheaper, in the center it is more expensive. In the center there are few cafes of the middle segment, either very cheap, or the prices are the same per dish as in Moscow, only in baht Smile (not 800 rubles, but 800 baht) 3. Bangkok is a metropolis, Samui is an island, if you get high from the metropolis - it does not matter when you move to it. 4. There is no specificity on the districts - in the very center there may be slums with houses made of cardboard. I live between asok and prom pong - it's cool here, considering that there are benjamins and lumpinis nearby, plus all the basic movement. If you need hayres - then you are here. 5. With accommodation on short baths it will be difficult, renthab and others will not help much - it is easier to check into a guesthouse for a couple of days and walk around the apartments with your feet to ask for short term apartments. In my area it's somewhere around 30-50k baht per month. Do a google maps serviced apartment search and it will show you potential options where you can rent apartments on short term (I myself live in Rembrandt hotel suites, there are definitely available apartments in the area of 40k).

I don't know, maybe there are better areas, but so far I consider the best around lumpini park there are many parks in the area, cultural centers, shopping centers and at the same time many quiet streets.
