There is no luggage compartment in our understanding. You just give the dog in a hard cage (always with a sippy cup) to the airport workers, they themselves load into the plane, and the cage during the flight stands behind the curtain at the flight attendants. Then they also unload themselves, and you get a dog on the luggage belt.
