A year ago I went to the post office and bought two boxes the size of a large suitcase. No problems at the Thai or our (Russian Federation) border.

Yes, or they sell lightweight foam containers. In a suitcase you can, too. Another issue is that all of this is checked in luggage, not hand luggage. And you can't take coconuts and watermelons. And durian.

You can, but probably not in baskets, but in packed containers.
