The point is that walking in Bangkok is interesting in different places. There's Rama Park 9, there's Lumpini, there's Moca, there's the Royal Palace and the old center with the temples, there's Chaopraya with its boat rides, Asiatic and Wat arun, there's Erawan and all these are quite far apart in different parts of the city. I would settle where there is what you want to visit first and where the subway station/bts is nearby (this is if you are without a car).

Far from the center (30 minutes by metro to Siam) but locally, a huge number of temples and interesting places for walking (parks, etc.) BTS station Bearing, Samrong, Pu Chao. Another big plus: All the conduits are new, no older than 5 years. There are a lot of offers for apartments that are brand new and the prices are very, very cheap.
