Who went by train or bus to Chiang Mai, is it comfortable? How many days to get to know Chiang Mai would you recommend?

I used to take a Nitebus. If you take the VIP 24, it's quite comfortable - reclining seats, almost into a bed. The ride is overnight. I was about 3-4 days, I do not remember exactly - took a trip to the mountains, the highest point, walking around town. Next you can drive to Chiang Rai.
