No, why only from the card. A lot of places you can. And in 7/11 and in females and in large chain stores and salons. Say at the cashier operator and the number. Somewhere the number you enter your own hands. They will give you a check with a code. The code you enter a command from the phone. All is written on the packaging of the SIM card. Googled, too, easily. You'll be fine.
