When flying from Abu Dhabi to Delhi to Bangkok, is a visa needed in Delhi or not, for the connection? And what else is needed for the transfer?

I flew this route a month ago; I read that a visa is needed for transfer in India, I made myself an electronic one. Nothing was asked at the airport itself. Maybe they have it somewhere unnoticed, or maybe they don't need it at all. But it was written on the airsales that there would be an exit to the city, so there was no exit to the city.
