Do you know what the exchange rate is at the airport when you arrive? I'm going to the hotel, and there I have to pay in baht right away, I guess.

The hotel can be paid for the next day. I've never been asked to pay right away at check-in. The exchange rate at the airport is bad. You can exchange $30 for a cab and that's it.
