How about here in Phuket in summer? (May-July) Is life comfortable? Humidity, showers?

Comfortable. The sea is often not calm, you should not count on long swims. Rains are not short-lived every day. But cloudy, juicy photos may not work (well, here as the Buddha will give). Prolonged frequent rains mainly occur in September-October. And so everything is green. Prices are lower. There are few people, although it is not particularly relevant for an extremely couple of years... it's always scarce.
