Does it make sense to look for accommodation on site for the long term or book on booking/airbnb?

We booked on Booking, arrived, and the hotel has been closed for a long time. It's good that the payment did not go through. We went to see other accommodation that we found on Agoda, there were rooms on the Internet, but they did not come in fact. But I think it's just happening to us.
