and explain about Bang Tao. Bot writes this is one of the most expensive and fashionable beaches of the island. Almost all cafes are closed, ads "sale, rent". There is a dump between the road and the beach. Has this always been the case, or has something gone wrong?

Always. There's Surin nearby. Nicer beach. And even the quality of the water in the sea is different, better.

There is a Laguna complex etc. with all 5* hotels.

Bangtao big. You were in the south judging by the total. There is some movement there, but everything is Deshman. Just to the north, a couple of hotels stand alone. Hotels are so-so - there is no infrastructure nearby. Just north of the Lagoon - they have their own amosphere there. So they pass as fashionable.
