Tell me, upon arrival in Phuket, return tickets or tickets to third countries are checked?

Yesterday we flew to Phuket, before the passport randomly checked the documents, the guys were told they would not be allowed without return tickets, they started buying online. We walked in 2 minutes without asking anything, but we bought return tickets in advance, then issued a refund.
