Please tell me about the carriage of fruit in hand luggage. We were told that either a fruit basket or a backpack, even if we bought additional hand luggage, is this really true?

We carried a basket of 6-7 kg in Aeroflot, we did not find fault.

We passed the check in, we had a basket of 5 kg, we bought an additional place for the basket from the carrier in advance. But, they took large baskets, which are more than 5 kg, they asked to put them in a bag. We had an additional backpack, 2 bags and a bag for two in our hand luggage. Missed without question.
