Who handed over the bike on samui? How do Thais react? Or is it better to fix it yourself?

If the bike is old initially, yes.

There are many stories that you will get an inflated, in your opinion price (about 20 baht for scratched plastic). You will go to the police that you are being divorced, but you will not find the truth. I've seen that most try to quietly fix themselves if time allows.

It depends. If the bike is old, then the Thais can be sympathetic. If there is insurance for the bike , then for me it is better to give up as is.
