You need to, but they are not issued. Can be opened with a work permit. As of this Monday, our Samui Immigration Office has stopped issuing a residence certificate (confirmation of your registration address). And without it, it is not possible to open a bank account with a tourist visa or stamp. The funny thing is that the Immigration Office says - go to the bank, you will open an account without it. But in the bank they turn it back and it turns out a vicious circle The problem with the residence certificate is wider - without it it is impossible to register transport or get a driver's license. But this issue seems to be resolved - you need to go to the local traffic police and there they will give a referral to the Immigration Office. And on the basis of this direction, the latter must issue a residence certificate. At least that was the case with our friends last week. Employees in the Immigration Office say that for banks, it seems, they will no longer issue a certificate. For everything else - we'll see.
