We went to Karon from Patong on a Smart bus, friends left cards for us, the fare is 50 baht on the map, there should be at least 170 baht on the map, the card itself is bought once from the conductor (you can see the price on their website). On Karon there is a stop on line 2 near the electric company. Just do not forget to pick up the card at the entrance and at the exit, then they will take off for the entire route.
