The two most inexpensive ways are by bus or train. In the BCC to get to the bus station, on the second floor there are many booths of different companies that send buses. There is an option to arrange everything through the 12go website (I haven't tried it, but I've seen recommendations). Or take the train to Surat Thani, and from there to the ferry by bus or taxi.
