There was information that there is a transfer from Khao San to Chang (bus + ferry). Who knows how reliable? Or is it absolutely necessary to go to the bus station?

Maybe there is, but for me it's better to ride a BTSE than to be sick from khaosan by bus. It's already not 2 hours to go to Chang, and then through the whole of Bangkok by bus.. and if the transfer is by minibus.. but if you are with 30kg of luggage and more, then maybe it makes sense. Look at 12go, maybe there is something there.
