You know, a few years ago we went from Bangkok to Poipet (there is a border) by train (very impressive, but very cheap), there by car to Siem Reap. And from Siem Siem Reap we took a small intercity bus to Phnom Penh (about 5 hours). We took this option because we were curious about the train and we wanted to go to Siem Reap first. And actually, there was a bus option from Pattaya North Station to border Poipet, and there are buses from the bus station to Phnom Penh as well. And cabs, too. We at the bus station cooperated with some guys from Europe and took a cab together. But that was in the pre-Pandemic times.
