The first time abroad is not on tour. I read before departure that I only need a passport and insurance. I see everyone is making some kind of certificate. I have 2 questions: 1. Are we screwed? 2. What should I do and where should I run?

If you are not going to open a bank account, do Thai rights, apply for a long-term visa, then you do not need any certificate. A resident certificate is a certificate to these institutions about where and for how long you are in the country.
