I do not think it is relevant to ask how much to take with you, as everyone has their own requests and their own level of comfort! Someone has a norm to eat in a restaurant for 5000 baht + wine, and someone norm to buy for 45 baht second in 7/11!) and so it is with everything, not just food.

It is difficult to say a specific figure, 1-2k $ should be enough probably.
